Will Chignell spent a day at Finborough as part of the school’s unique Life Skills programme, which pushes the boundaries of education by giving pupils “real world” experiences and skills which will help them throughout their lives.
The feedback from pupils after his workshops was overwhelmingly positive.
“At the beginning of the session I thought I couldn’t present – but now I know I can.”
“This session has helped me develop some self-belief.”
“I now understand the importance of first impressions and today I have got some top tips to make the best first impression.”
“I can do anything if I put my mind to it and believe in myself.”
Will ran two workshops on Presentation Skills, working with Year 11 and Lower Sixth students in morning and afternoon sessions, and then stayed to enjoy dinner with both sets of students in the evening.
“In a fast-changing and ever competitive world, the ability to have a high sense of self-awareness, and the ability to communicate your message confidently, to the right people, at the right time, getting your desired result, is key to succeeding in whatever you choose to do,” he said.
Finborough School sets itself apart with is unique Life Skills programme. A carefully tailored series of sessions helps students to find out more about themselves and their personal skills and build the self-confidence they will need in the workplace. Sessions include personality profiling, building rapport, neuro-linguistic programming, presentation skills, emotional intelligence, coping under pressure and personal planning.
“We are proud of our innovative Life Skills programme, which introduces our pupils to the ‘real world’ before they leave school,” said Finborough School principal James Sinclair. “We were delighted to welcome Will to the school as part of this programme; his workshops clearly provided our pupils with inspiration and confidence in an area that will be vitally important as they plan for their future.”
