Science
The aim of the Science Department at Finborough School is to ensure that a minimum entitlement for all students will represent a broad and balanced view of science. That is to say, a view of science which includes a balanced mix of biology, chemistry and physics, and also some astronomy, earth sciences, electronics and technology. This view should also show the links and relationships between science, technology and society.
The department is responsible for teaching a balanced science curriculum within the breadth of a balanced school curriculum. This involves teaching:
S1, S2, S3 - General Science
S4, S5 - OCR Gateway Science Suite
L6, U6 - OCR AS and A2 science courses
Key-stage 3
At key-stage 3 students receive 4 hours of General Science teaching a week. This is delivered through in-house schemes of work which reflect the "Programme of Study" set out in the QCA Schemes of work. Pupils are set on entry and taught in sets throughout key-stage 3.
Key-stage 4
At key-stage 4 students receive five hours and twenty minutes of Science teaching a week. This is delivered through in-house schemes of work which reflect the "KS4 Programme of Study"
Pupils are taught in sets throughout key-stage 4.
Key-stage 5
At key-stage 5 we presently offer OCR GCE Biology and Physics AS and A2 courses. Students receive 4 hours of tuition a week per subject, which includes assessed practicals.
