Food Technology

Food Technology is taught throughout the whole of Finborough School with the emphasis on healthy eating.

KS3

All pupils in the Middle School will spend time each week in this busy and exciting department. Pupils have all the ingredients that they use provided for them and the prepared food is either eaten within the classroom or the day pupils can, of course, take their food home at the end of the day. When food is eaten in the room then the pupils are taught the importance of setting tables as well as using good manners. The department is run by two well qualified and dedicated food teachers who are passionate about the emphasis being put on the practical work and the enjoyment of working with food. We ensure all pupils are able to cook basic family meals easily by the time they have reached the end of S3.

KS4

At the end of S3, pupils begin to choose their GCSE options. This thriving department offers the Food and Nutrition option. Pupils work in small, friendly classes where the emphasis is on individual study and research guided by the teacher: an excellent start for sixth form study.

GCSE Food Technology has at present 50% coursework and 50% assessment by examination. The study for this course is about the following 5 sections.

1.  Nutrition

2.  Individual requirements for food

3.  Methods of cooking

4.  Preservation of foods and Health and Safety
