Senior Physics Challenge
This year’s British Physics Olympiad Senior Physics Challenge results are in and we are delighted that our two students who entered, Tom B and Matthew G both received Gold awards.
This year’s competition consisted of two 30 minute multiple choice papers sat online earlier in the month with ~ 5,300 pupils competing nationally. The exams are set and administered by Oxford University Physics Department and aim to challenge pupils beyond the A-level specification demands and with an emphasis on problem-solving skills, with Gold awarded to the top 15% of students.
In a report sent back to the School, it was stated:
“This multiple choice competition looks for quick thinking and fluency in a range of small topic areas questioned. There are a number of puzzle-like questions which require the students to do small manipulations and at speed. There were 40 question in an hour, and this would have been a challenge.”
In acknowledgement of that, Tom and Matthew have done extremely well and demonstrated exceptional Learnability in preparing for the challenge. We are also delighted that this has motivated both students to develop further their interest in the subject and read more widely.
