Top Rugby Stars visit Community School Rugby Festival

After a two year absence the annual Finborough U12 Rugby Festival returned on Sunday 3rd October.
Thirteen teams from across the east of England including schools and clubs engaged in a feast of rugby, enjoyed by parents reviling in the opportunity to be back on the touchline, watching their children playing sport.

Northampton Saints, Wales and British and Irish Lions star Dan Biggar was joined by Jack Van Poortvilet, England under 20’s captain and Leicester Tigers player as the special guests, meeting the players, their coaches and families and presenting medals and trophies at the conclusion of the festival.

The standard of rugby was exceptional with a number of teams celebrating success. Finborough School Eagles were worthy winners in the Bowl Competition, whilst Stowmarket RUFC won the Vase and Colchester Royal Grammar School took first place in the Plate competition. The second tier Trophy competition was won by Bishop Stortford High School on try difference with Framlingham College Prep School in second place. The overall festival cup was hotly contested by the three top teams from the first round, Finborough School Lions, Bedford Prep School and Royal Hospital School. Finborough School emerged victorious winning their matches to be crowned festival champions for 2021.

Finborough Headmaster Steven Clark thanked everyone involved in running an excellent tournament and reflected the collective joy shared by all that competitive school and club sport is back.

The sun shone on a wonderful rugby event at Finborough School epitomising the power of sport to unite and inspire our children and bring communities back together.
