Move over Messi, Alfie’s arrived!
Finborough student Alfie has reached his goal of beating Lionel Messi’s record for the number of consecutive games in which he’s scored. Messi holds the record in the world of professional football of scoring in 21 consecutive games. Alfie beat that last week (in the world of school and junior club football), by scoring in his 22nd consecutive match!
Finborough professional football coach Paul Grainger said “We started looking at what the record was when he reached 14 consecutive games as we thought it was quite unusual and we have kept count since. It is a remarkable run meaning he has not failed to score in a match he has played since March 2023. He has worked really hard and has a great variety to his game now, two-footed, quick, strong and lethal in front of goal. More importantly, a great character to work with. Alfie has a huge future in football if he carries on as he is now.”
Alfie trains with his school team and coaches under the watchful eye of Mr Grainger who has over 40 years experience managing and coaching clubs across East Anglia. Alfie is also a member of local club Witnesham Wasps U13. Both Mr Grainger and Alfie attribute some of this incredible run to mindset and determination.
“Alfie worked hours and hours on the training ground, him and the goalkeeper, then when this run started he’s just remained focused and kept his mind on what he wanted to achieve.”
Alfie was delighted to have reached his goal “I felt relieved after scoring last week as it’s taken me a long time to get there, I had to believe all the way through.”
