Prep and Senior Ski Trip to Foppolo
The recent trip to Foppolo in Northern Italy truly embodied the spirit of the Finborough Family, bringing together pupils from Year 5 through to Year 13.
Setting off for the airport, there was a buzz of excitement and the choice to take a 2.5-hour flight followed by a 1.5-hour coach drive, is far more advantageous than a 12-hour coach journey.
The stay at Hotel K2, situated in a traditional Italian community, was exceptional. The Finborough community has been staying at this hotel for over 10 years and the school has shared many significant moments with its proprietor Gabriella. Teachers have loved getting to know Gabriella and her family, having met her first grandchild and supporting her through personal challenges. Always the most welcoming host, Gabriella caters to all needs, from accommodating every student to sourcing a specialist instructor for a physically disabled student. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she is a huge part of the charm of Finborough’s annual ski trip.
What’s more, the benefits of this age mix are immeasurable. Older students naturally look after the younger ones, who in turn admire and emulate their organisational skills, etiquette, and determination. Students fortunate enough to participate know they will not be with their usual in-school peer group, and the additional evening activities and games, organised by Steve Haycock, provide excellent opportunities for year groups to mix and develop interpersonal skills without even realising it.
Over the past decade, the group has grown from 20 students to taking over the entire hotel. The visit takes place in March, and while the venue is not the highest, snow permitting, there is access to two valleys, perfect for the school. The resort caters to beginners and offers challenges for more experienced skiers, especially when the snow is favourable.
This trip is a testament to Finborough School’s family ethos, providing invaluable experiences and creating a sense of community among its students.
