Finborough Pupil Selected for Prestigious IRFU IQ Rugby Tour
Finborough School is proud to announce that one of our talented pupils, Eric Cantillon, has been selected to represent the IRFU IQ Rugby Team on their upcoming Provincial Tour in Ireland, taking place from 20th to 26th July 2025.
Eric’s selection is a remarkable achievement, as he was chosen from over 250 players across the UK. He will now join the elite squad to compete against top provincial teams—Connacht, Munster, and Ulster—showcasing his skills on a national stage.
IQ Rugby is the Irish Rugby Football Union’s (IRFU) Player Pathway programme for Irish-qualified players based outside of Ireland. It identifies and nurtures young athletes with the potential, drive, and ambition to represent Ireland at age-grade level and beyond. Players qualify through Irish heritage—by birth, parents, or grandparents—and are given the opportunity to work closely with IRFU High-Performance staff.
This tour is a vital step in the IRFU’s development pathway, offering players like Eric the chance to be benchmarked against their peers in Ireland and potentially progress to the Irish U18 and U19 squads.
Speaking about his selection, Eric said:
“I’m incredibly honoured to be selected for the IQ Rugby Provincial Tour. It’s a huge opportunity to test myself against some of the best young players in Ireland and to learn from top coaches. I’m really grateful for the support I’ve had from my coaches, friends, and everyone at Finborough School.”
The Finborough family extends heartfelt congratulations to Eric on this outstanding accomplishment. His dedication, talent, and hard work are an inspiration to the entire school community. We look forward to following his journey and cheering him on as he takes this exciting next step in his rugby career.
