Finborough Students Shine at ISA National Athletics Championships
Seventeen talented Finborough School athletes proudly represented East Anglia at the ISA National Athletics Championships after qualifying through a dominant performance at the regional round in Cambridge earlier this year – a competition Finborough won overall.
East Anglia, who claimed their first-ever team title just last year, returned to the national stage with high hopes and strong motivation. The team arrived early at the newly redeveloped Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, a world-class venue that hosted the Commonwealth Games, offering our students a truly unforgettable experience.
Our athletes rose to the occasion, performing superbly throughout the day and helping East Anglia secure a hugely impressive 2nd place overall.
Despite six agonising 4th place finishes, Finborough athletes brought home an outstanding haul of medals. Some standout performances included:
- Finley – Gold in the Year 10/11 Javelin with a superb throw exceeding 50 metres.
- Jacob – Gold in the Year 8/9 Javelin (over 40m) and Bronze in Shot Put.
- Ethan – Silver in the Year 10/11 Boys Hurdles, showcasing brilliant technique.
- Charlie – Double Bronze in the Year 9/10 Triple Jump and 400m.
- Amber – Bronze in the Year 8/9 Girls Javelin.
- George – 4th in a blisteringly fast Year 10/11 100m final and Gold in the Shot Put.
In the final event of the day, the Year 10/11 Boys Relay, made entirely of Year 10 Finborough students, defended their national title in a nail-biting finish. This relay team has enjoyed consistent success over the years and are already eyeing a return next season, exams permitting.
We are incredibly proud of every student who took part. It was a long but exhilarating day under the glorious sunshine, and one that will live long in the memory.
