Each year Sixth Form starts with an exciting induction programme. To encourage confidence and team spirit students participate in activities such as Go Ape – a high wire assault course, Battlefield Live – a team building laser tag activity and Segway Racing.
Other activities during the week include a study skills project, this year based on the popular Bake Off!; advice on how to research on-line but avoid plagiarism and social activities such as a meal out with staff to help everyone get to know each other.
Year 12 have the unique opportunity to attend a course on ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers’ by Sean Covey that aims to build confidence, self-awareness and social skills. As a school we have embraced Stephen Covey’s ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ and wish to give our students an insight into the valuables lessons that will assist them with their A-level studies and give a competitive advantage in the outside world. We like to treat our sixth formers as adults and the emphasis is on self-discipline and responsibility. All sixth formers have the opportunity to be prefects and are encouraged to take on leadership roles in the school. Those with the most leadership potential are offered the opportunity to lead the prefect team as Head of School, become House Captains, to formally represent the school at various functions and to take an active part in the workings of the school council.
The UCAS application process starts in year 12 and continues through into year 13. Students are provided with support and advice on degree courses and university options. Those students not planning to go into higher education are also given advice on their options.
With Boarding Houses on site we can provide students with an opportunity to see what it is like to live away from home in preparation for either university or that first flat share! Sixth Formers are encouraged in their efforts to seek work experience, ideally in the holidays, in areas related to possible career/degree choices.
The end of year Sixth Form residential trip provides a chance to celebrate the end of the year and say farewell to the Year 13 leavers. Whether in the UK, for example, at Hemsby in Norfolk or Studland in Dorset or further afield in Chamonix, France the trip is tailor made to ensure everyone benefits from the experience.
