Girls’ sport is a vibrant and integral part of school life, with a strong emphasis on participation, performance, and personal development. Netball stands out as one of the flagship sports, supported by excellent facilities including an indoor and 2 outdoor courts that allow for year-round training and competition. The school regularly competes in regional and national tournaments alongside weekly fixtures with other schools, providing students with opportunities to challenge themselves at the highest levels. At Finborough School, netball is a big part of school life, and students are given every chance to get involved, improve, and enjoy the game. Whether it’s through competitive matches, top-level coaching, or national competitions, there’s something for everyone. Beyond the court, pupils also get to experience the sport in exciting ways, like watching professional Superleague matches and being provided the opportunity to be ball patrol court side. These opportunities help students feel part of the wider netball world and inspire them to aim high, both in sport and beyond.

Developing netball skills from Prep to Senior
Prep School Netball
Our success is built on a foundation of high-quality, netball-specific teaching and learning that begins as early as Year 3, ensuring pupils are taught the fundamental skills and tactics from a young age.
Senior School Netball
From Year 7 upwards, students benefit from structured strength and conditioning sessions, allowing them to develop peak physical fitness and perform at their best. Our programme is supported by strong partnerships with local clubs and the Suffolk County Academy Netball, enabling our athletes to access further pathways for development beyond school.
Pre-season training is enhanced by coaching sessions led by England players and head coaches from experienced pathway Superleague teams., ensuring our girls receive expert tuition from the very best in the sport.
County Champions 2025
Finborough’s U19 Girls’ Netball Squad continues to set the standard for performance and progression within the region. The squad recently delivered an outstanding display in the opening round of the England Netball National Schools Competition, finishing the tournament unbeaten and being crowned County Champions.
Elite Netball Training
Finborough Netball offers access to elite‑level development opportunities, including high‑performance training delivered by leading figures in the sport. One such session was led by Sachel Grant, an experienced Pathway coach with London Mavericks and Saracens. Her energy, technical expertise and high‑performance standards shaped an intensive one‑day programme designed for advanced athletes.
Across the day, players engaged in advanced skill development, positional workshops and competitive match‑play scenarios, each tailored to stretch high‑ability individuals and refine their decision‑making under pressure. Sachel’s insight and coaching style provided an exceptional learning environment, reinforcing Finborough’s commitment to delivering top‑tier performance experiences for its netball players.

Meet our award-winning Head of Netball
Excellence in Netball is championed by our Head of Netball, Mrs Donna Cooper – an inspiring leader whose credentials speak volumes. As the U15 Suffolk County Head Coach, a Qualified Umpire, Talent ID Selector for both Suffolk and Essex, and Vice Chair of the Suffolk Netball Association, Mrs Cooper brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the sport. Her outstanding contribution to netball has been recognised with the prestigious ‘East of England Netball Teacher of the Year Award’. Under her expert guidance, students at Finborough benefit from elite-level coaching, talent development opportunities, and a pathway to county and regional representation. We are incredibly fortunate to have Mrs Cooper and her talented team lead Netball at Finborough.
