Year 13 Student Reflects on Six Nations U18 Festival Experience
Finborough School has cheerfully welcomed back to the new term Year 13 pupil Charlie Tamani, a Finborough School England U18 rugby player. He recently represented England at the Six Nations U18 Festival. He shared key moments and lessons from the experience.
One highlight came early in the tournament. “Scoring a try in the first match was a huge moment for me,” Charlie said. “I wasn’t expecting that much game time. So when it happened, it meant a lot.”
He also valued the off-pitch experience. “Building connections with the squad and sharing that experience stood out,” he added.
Handling Pressure on the International Stage
Representing England is a major achievement. Charlie spoke about the emotions that came with it.

“It felt unreal wearing the England shirt,” he said. “It’s something you dream about.”
He acknowledged the pressure. “There’s definitely pressure, but I handled it better this year,” he said. “I understood more about what coaches expected. That helped me stay composed and focused.”
Stepping Up to a Higher Level of Competition
The tournament brought a higher level of competition.
“The standard is much higher than what I’m used to,” Charlie explained. “The game is faster and more physical.”
He highlighted key learning points. “You have to stay switched on at all times,” he said. “It taught me the importance of consistency and decision-making under pressure.”
He also recognised areas to improve. “It showed me what I need to work on to compete at that level.”
Bringing International Experience Back to Suffolk
Charlie is now applying what he has learned at school.
“I want to set a strong example,” he said. “I will bring higher standards, discipline and professionalism.”
He is also focused on his studies. “I want to show you can balance academics and sport,” he said.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Rugby Players
Charlie hopes to support younger pupils.
“Younger pupils look up to older players,” he said. “I want to help them improve and stay committed.”
He values being a role model. “If I can inspire even a few pupils, that would mean a lot.”
Looking Ahead: Ambitions Beyond School
Charlie has clear goals for the future.
“This experience has pushed my ambitions further,” he said. “It showed me the level I need to reach.”
He is aiming for a professional career. “My goal is to earn a professional contract,” he said.
He also shared advice for younger players.
“Give 100% in everything you do,” he said. “Stay humble and be willing to learn.”
Charlie’s achievement reflects his commitment and talent. It also highlights the strength of sport at Finborough School where pupils are encouraged to pursue excellence. They also develop character, discipline and balance for life beyond school.
