Finborough School Girls Hockey Tour to South Africa
Finborough School’s Ladies’ Hockey and Netball Tour to South Africa proved to be an unforgettable week of sport, adventure and cultural discovery, providing students with the opportunity to compete against talented opposition while experiencing everything that makes Cape Town such a remarkable destination.
After arriving in Cape Town, the girls quickly settled into tour life with training before taking part in a series of hockey and netball fixtures against local South African schools. Across every match, our students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, representing Finborough with pride both on and off the field. Every fixture provided valuable opportunities to build friendships and share experiences through sport with a particular highlight coming from the U18 hockey team’s impressive 3–0 victory.
Away from the sporting programme, the group enjoyed an action-packed itinerary, taking in some of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks and attractions. Highlights included breathtaking views from the summit of Table Mountain, a thought-provoking visit to the historic Robben Island, surfing at Muizenberg Beach, exploring the spectacular Cape Peninsula, meeting the famous African penguins at Boulders Beach and visiting Cape Point. The tour concluded with an unforgettable safari at Aquila Game Reserve, where students were fortunate enough to see the Big Five in their natural habitat.
Throughout the tour, the students were exceptional ambassadors for Finborough. Their enthusiasm, resilience, kindness and willingness to embrace every opportunity shone through in every activity, whether competing on the sports field, learning about South Africa’s history or experiencing its incredible landscapes and wildlife.
The girls also embraced South Africa’s rich culture, enjoying traditional braais, African drumming and cuisine, while making the most of the vibrant atmosphere of the V&A Waterfront and the charming coastal town of Simon’s Town.
This girls tour was a tremendous success, leaving everyone with lasting memories, stronger friendships and experiences that will stay with them for years to come.
