National Athletics Success for Finborough

It has been a fantastic term of Athletics excellence at Finborough School, with pupils demonstrating exceptional talent, determination and discipline across a range of events and competitions.

Last Wednesday, Finborough travelled to the athletics track at the University of Cambridge to compete in the East Anglian ISA Regional Athletics Championships.

We are incredibly proud of all our athletes, who delivered outstanding performances and represented the school superbly in very challenging conditions. The competition had to be halted twice due to thunder and lightning, but our athletes remained focused and resilient throughout, not losing site of their goals.

Their efforts paid off as Finborough were crowned overall champions with an impressive 276 points.

This victory resulted in an incredible 16 athletes qualifying to represent East Anglia at the ISA National Finals in Birmingham on Monday 15th June, competing against the very best from across the country.

Special mention must go to Jacob, who at 13 years old beat the national record by 55cm in Shot Putt, throwing 14.03m. He then went on to beat both his PB and another national record in javelin, throwing 57.43m! There was also impressive gold medal success for Finley and Amber in the javelin events, gold for Izzy in the U14 girls 100m relay team, gold for Louie and Rera in the U14 boys 100m relay, gold for Charles in the 1500m, a silver medal for Ella in the 1500m and bronze for Charles in Discus.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding team effort and fantastic achievement for the school. The success of our athletes reflects the dedication, perseverance and sporting excellence that continues to thrive in all areas of sport at Finborough.
