Northampton Saints secure Tamani for Senior Academy 2026/2027 season
Finborough School is proudly celebrating the success of Charlie Tamani, who has signed his first professional contract with Premiership side Northampton Saints. Charlie becomes the only player in this year’s intake to come from a Suffolk school – a milestone that reflects both his exceptional talent and the strength of Finborough’s rugby pathway.
Tamani’s rugby journey began in league with the Eastern Rhinos before he transitioned to union at Finborough, where his speed, power and natural flair quickly set him apart. Since then, he has flourished in the Saints Academy system, shifting from centre to wing, producing standout performances in the PREM Next Gen Academy League, and earning selection for England Under‑19s. He now joins seven other Academy prospects in stepping up to the senior Saints squad this summer.
Finborough’s Head of Rugby, Mitchell Turner, praised both Charlie’s dedication and the collective effort behind his development.
“This is a fantastic achievement for Charlie and something that he has worked incredibly hard for. However, this is also a testament to all the hard work that everyone has put into him behind the scenes — in the classroom, on the pitch and off it.”
Northampton Saints Academy Head Coach Charlie Reed echoed this sentiment, highlighting Tamani’s potential at the next level. Read the full news story here.
“Charlie has a great ability to beat defenders; not only is he very quick, but he’s also very powerful, and we’ve seen that across the Academy League,” Reed said. “He’s a good character and someone who, given the right professional environment here at Saints, should kick on well in the future.”
Reflecting on his journey, Tamani offered advice to younger players hoping to follow in his footsteps.
“Give 100% in everything you do, on and off the pitch. Stay humble, be willing to learn, and take every opportunity that comes your way.”
Finborough School is immensely proud of Charlie’s achievement and looks forward to watching him continue to grow as he begins his professional career in Black, Green and Gold.
