Music

Music at Finborough is vibrant, interesting, inclusive and central to the life of all students at our school.

We see music education as both a stimulating journey for self discovery as well as an academically demanding discipline that all students should explore from an early age. With a strong emphasis on learning by doing, beginning in the pre-prep years, our children develop practical skills in the spheres of performing, composing and listening throughout their time at Finborough.

Our curriculum is exciting and relevant, taught using the latest methods in music education, giving students the opportunity to fully immerse in the impact of music across the years. From the sounds of Javenese Gamelan, to Brazilian Samba, Brahms 3rd Symphony, Hans Zimmer, Miles Davis and James Tenny, students are immersed in an ever expanding range of style throughout their time studying Music. Our team of peripatetic music teachers collectively deliver a busy programme of individual instrumental tuition and masterclasses. This results in a wide range of extracurricular groups who perform in a number of our concerts each year.

Industry Standard Music Facilities

Our highly specialist facilities provide students with endless possibilities for creating their own music in a setting that is akin to the industry standard. All music activities take place in our purpose-built centre for Music which houses a state of the art recording studio, seven sound insulated rehearsal rooms and two large adaptable performance/teaching spaces. Our Music facilities are regarded as some of the best in the school education sector, providing students with an excellent acoustic environment and the unique opportunity to get practical hands-on experience of music technology in an industry standard environment. We own an extensive collection of orchestral and world instruments, some of which can be loaned to students before they commit to buying their own.

If your child has a special interest in music that you would like to discuss or share with us, please get in touch with Mr Griffin (jgriffin@finborough.school) who will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
