Beyond Finborough

At Finborough School, our Sixth Form experience goes far beyond the classroom. As a leading independent sixth form in Suffolk, we are dedicated to preparing students not only for academic success but for life beyond school.

Whether our students are aiming for top university destinations, exploring alternative pathways, or seeking expert careers advice, our tailored support ensures every individual is equipped to thrive. From UCAS preparation and personal statement guidance to apprenticeships and professional mentoring, Finborough’s private sixth form offers a dynamic launchpad for future success.

How do we prepare pupils for their journey Beyond Finborough?

Our students begin their journey Beyond Finborough in the Autumn term of Year 12 by completing psychometric tests. These assessments explore academic strengths, personality traits, and environmental preferences to help identify potential career paths. For some, the route is already clear, such as a future in medicine, while others begin a process of exploration and discovery. We use Unifrog, a powerful online platform, to support this journey with comprehensive information on careers, university courses, and apprenticeships.

Spring Term: Exploring Possibilities

Throughout the spring term, students attend a series of career talks, both in person and virtually, delivered by professionals from leading enterprises. These sessions help broaden horizons and inspire ambition. Students begin to refine their interests and consider the qualifications and experiences needed to pursue their goals.

Summer Term: Focusing Futures

By the summer term, students start to focus in on their post-18 options. All students create a UCAS account, regardless of whether they plan to apply to university, as the platform offers valuable insights into UK and international higher education, gap years, and apprenticeships. We host a UCAS Discovery Exhibition, where they can speak directly with representatives from top universities and institutions. We also host a Parents’ Information Evening to explain the application process for both university and apprenticeships.

Building a Competitive Edge

Before the summer holidays, we ensure every student has a plan to enrich their personal profile. This includes researching and engaging in work experience, online courses, TED Talks, extended reading, and work shadowing. These activities are essential for demonstrating genuine interest and depth of knowledge to future universities or employers.
