About Finborough Nursery
The Nursery has full use of the school facilities whilst also having its own secure outdoor areas with age appropriate equipment for little ones. Find out more about the Early Year’s Foundation Stage, our Curriculum and approach to learning here.
The staff team across the Early Years are individuals who are very passionate about developing the child as a whole. All members of staff are Early Years specialists. It is essential that any member of staff working within the early years have the correct qualifications. This enables us to have a great understanding of child development to support them at this crucial stage of learning.
We are fortunate enough to have a generous staff: pupil ratio, which enables all staff to have an in-depth knowledge of each child and the ability to have the time to work closely with every child, allowing them to reach their full potential. We teach the children through a variety of techniques; we take on some aspects of Montessori, of the Early Learning Goals, of the ‘Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’ Philosophy and of Learnability. Combining these techniques allows us to have a unique creative curriculum, ensuring that each child feels confident to take a risk and is happy to make a mistake.

At Finborough there are three educators in a child’s life: primarily, the parents, secondly the teachers and thirdly the environment. A good home-school partnership is essential in Early Years. At Finborough we have an excellent relationship with our parents. We do this through our online learning journeys, recorded on ‘Tapestry’. Tapestry is a tool that all staff use in Nursery and Reception. It gives the staff the opportunity to capture a child’s ‘Wow!’ moments, through photographs and videos, which are then posted to parents on the child’s individual online learning journey account or site. Parents are then involved continuously in their child’s school experience.
Our Rooms
At Finborough Nursery, every room plays a vital role in each child’s unique learning journey. We recognise that every stage of our development is special and we tailor our approach to meet the needs of each individual child. As children grow, they move naturally through our rooms. From the nurturing care of the Discoverers Room (6 months – 2 years) to the curiosity and exploration of the Explorers Room (2-3 years) and finally, to the confidence and independence of the Investigators Room (3-4 years). Each environment is carefully designed to build on the skills, knowledge and interests developed in the previous stage ensuring a smooth transition and continuous progress. By the time our children take their first steps into Reception they feel confident, capable and excited for the next chapter of their education.
The Discovers Room: 6 months – 2 years
In our discoveries room we provide a safe, nurturing space where the very youngest children can explore the world at their own pace. From first smiles to first steps, every milestone is celebrated. Through gentle interaction century play an plenty of cuddles we help babies and toddlers feel secure and confident. Our routines are flexible to meet individual needs, supporting feeding, sleeping and comfort. Early communication skills are encouraged through songs, stories and playful conversations. While a variety of textures, colours and sounds spark curiosity. Foundations for a long love of learning begin with warmth, care, and joy.
The Explorers Room: 2 years – 3 years
In the Explorers room, curious minds and busy hands are always on the move. At this age, children are developing independence, learning to make choices and beginning to play alongside and with their friends. We nurture their growing language skills through stories, songs and conversations. We use early problem solving through play or activities encouraging creativity, coordination, and confidence from building tall towers to splashing in the water. We support early self-care skills such as hand washing and starting to dress themselves and help them to feel proud of their achievements. Every day brings new adventures, discoveries, and chances to explore the world together.
The Investigators Room: 3 years – 4 years
In our investigators room. We gently prepare the children for the exciting next step into school. Through play, exploration and shared experiences, they develop independence, managing their own belongings and taking care of themselves with growing confidence. We help them build strong friendships, take turns and express their ideas clearly, ready for group learning in the Reception class. Early literacy and math skills are woven naturally into our day. From recognising their own names to counting, sorting and exploring patterns. We encourage children to try new challenges, celebrate their achievements and keep going when things feel tricky. By the time they leave the investigation room. They are not only ready for the routines of school they are eager and excited for the next adventure ahead.
