Prep School Boarding

Boarding at Finborough offers our Prep pupils a unique opportunity to enjoy an extended school experience within a warm, structured and supportive environment. While the core of their school day mirrors that of their day peers, boarders benefit from additional routines, friendships and enrichment activities that make boarding life both purposeful and fun.

The day begins with a gentle wake-up at 7:00am, giving boarders time to get ready for the day ahead. They gather for a hearty breakfast at 7:30am, setting the tone for a productive morning. By 8:00am, they are outside enjoying fresh air and morning interaction with friends, a great way to energise and prepare for the school day. At 8:25am, the whistle is blown and the children line up with their classmates, ready to start lessons.

From there, their day runs alongside their day school peers, filled with engaging lessons, collaborative learning and subject enrichment. The school day finishes at 4:20pm, but for boarders, the day is far from over. Alongside many day pupils who opt in, they attend study and tea, a supervised homework and dining session, which provides valuable time to complete prep work and enjoy a hot meal together.

At 5:30pm, boarders return to the boarding house where they have 30 minutes to relax, change out of uniform and unwind with friends. A roll call in the dining hall at 6:00pm marks the start of their evening routine. Evening activities begin at 6:20pm and vary throughout the week. These might include a fun sporting session, focused independent study in the Hub, or time spent socialising in the boarding common areas, without screens, through games like pool, creative crafts, or simply chatting and relaxing together.

Prep School boarders have a 7:00pm curfew, with dorm time at 7:30pm. Devices are handed in by 8:00pm and by 8:30pm, it’s lights out, ensuring a good night’s sleep before another exciting day at Finborough.

Meet our Prep school boarders!

We recently caught up with two of our prep school boarders, Zeenah and Faye, to find out more about their experience of life in the boarding house. You can read the full interview here.

Boarding in the Prep School not only nurtures independence and confidence but also offers a rich sense of community, structure and belonging — all while having lots of fun.
