Prep School Co-curricular Programme

In Finborough’s Prep School, co-curricular opportunities are designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and support every child’s personal journey.

Clubs run during lunchtime and after school, with after-school sessions taking place from 4.30 to 5.30pm. This forms part of Finborough’s broader wraparound care provision, offering families flexible and enriching options beyond the school day. Most activities are provided at no additional cost, though some specialised options may carry a fee depending on the requirements.

Co-curricular options are shaped in collaboration with families. Discussions with pupils and parents help guide the development of the programme, with choices shared and selected in partnership to ensure every child is offered something meaningful and tailored to their interests. The programme is reviewed annually, and we remain open to introducing new opportunities based on pupil voice and parental feedback.

The Prep co-curricular programme is delivered by our dedicated teaching staff and overseen by Mr Ian Ireland, Director of Co-curricular, ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience for every pupil.

“Numerous extra-curricular opportunities for pupils outside lessons help pupils develop a range of subject specific and interpersonal skills.”

Years 3 – 4

From Year 3 onwards, pupils are introduced to a wide variety of activities that encourage exploration and enjoyment beyond the classroom. Football and netball are offered to younger pupils, alongside forest school, cricket, and performing arts each chosen to promote physical wellbeing, creativity, and a sense of adventure in these formative years.

Years 5 – 6

As pupils move into Years 5 and 6, the programme expands to reflect their growing independence and interests. Rugby and hockey are introduced in the autumn term, while cricket, forest school, and performing arts continue to provide engaging options. For those with a passion for golf, our partnership with Stowmarket Golf Club offers a specialist academy pathway, giving pupils access to expert coaching and facilities.

These activities are carefully designed to complement classroom learning. Whether it’s building teamwork through sport, developing storytelling skills in drama, or exploring the natural world in forest school, pupils make meaningful connections between their academic subjects and co-curricular experiences.

The programme also encourages interaction across year groups, helping to build a strong sense of community. Older pupils often support younger ones, and friendships flourish across ages, ultimately creating a nurturing environment where every child feels included and inspired.
