Curriculum & Approach to Learning
What truly sets our Pre-Prep apart is our whole-child approach, where character development is nurtured just as carefully as early academic skills.
While our children begin to build strong foundations in reading, writing and maths, equal importance is placed on fostering compassion, confidence, empathy and resilience – qualities that will help them flourish both in and beyond the classroom.
Character education is gently woven through every aspect of our day. Whether it’s taking turns during circle time, helping a friend, reflecting during storytime or sharing their ideas with confidence, our children are encouraged to think about who they are, how they treat others and how they can grow into the best version of themselves.
We also help children develop an early understanding of how they learn — encouraging them to talk about their thinking, recognise their feelings, and approach challenges with confidence and curiosity. These important early habits help children become more independent, reflective and enthusiastic learners.
At Finborough Pre-Prep, our values are lived every day – in the way children play together, explore new ideas and begin to take ownership of their learning. It’s a joyful, nurturing environment where children feel safe, seen and supported, and where a love of learning and strong sense of self begins to take root.

The Curriculum
At Finborough Pre-Prep, we offer an enriched and varied curriculum that nurtures the whole child and lays the foundations for a lifelong love of learning. Alongside core subjects such as English, maths and science, our children benefit from a broad range of experiences that develop creativity, curiosity and confidence.
From as early as Reception, children begin learning French through songs, stories and games, helping to build early language skills in a fun and engaging way. Our curriculum also includes specialist-taught sessions in music, drama, P.E. and tennis, as well as weekly swimming lessons and Forest School, allowing children to discover and develop their individual strengths and interests.
By providing a wide range of high-quality learning opportunities, we ensure every child can thrive, academically, socially and emotionally, as they begin their educational journey.

Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning is a vital part of life in the Pre-Prep at Finborough. Our beautiful setting, complete with open green spaces and a fantastic treehouse, allows children to take their learning beyond the classroom and into nature.
Whether they’re exploring seasonal changes, storytelling beneath the trees, or engaging in hands-on science and creative play, being outdoors brings learning to life in exciting and meaningful ways.
Weekly Forest School sessions give children the chance to build resilience, teamwork and independence through exploration, problem-solving and imaginative play. These sessions encourage curiosity, risk-taking and a deep connection to the natural world all while supporting emotional well-being and developing key skills that extend across the curriculum.
Our outdoor environment is not just a backdrop it’s an extension of the classroom where wonder, discovery and growth happen every day.
