Senior Co-curricular Programme

At Finborough, co-curricular experiences are woven into the fabric of everyday school life. Whether leading a team, supporting a younger pupil, or simply trying something new, children learn to take initiative, embrace challenge, and celebrate their own unique strengths.

As pupils journey through Prep and into Senior School, the scope of opportunity widens. Importantly, these opportunities don’t sit apart from academic life, they enhance it. Co-curricular activities deepen classroom learning by bringing subjects to life, encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Whether it’s applying mathematical thinking in robotics, exploring literature through drama, or developing leadership in team sports, pupils connect what they learn with how they live.

Many of these experiences also bring pupils from different year groups together, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Older students mentor younger ones, friendships form across ages, and everyone benefits from the richness of learning alongside others.

“Clubs include crochet & chat, kickboxing, yoga, VEX robotics and running. DofE is popular, with canoeing on the Norfolk Broads for silver and gold expeditions.”

Talk Education, 2025

Co-curricular opportunities at Finborough are shaped by the voices of our community. Discussions with pupils and parents helped guide the creation of a diverse programme, with options shared and selected in partnership with families. This collaborative approach ensures that every child is offered something meaningful, engaging, and tailored to their interests. We are always open to exploring new co-curricular opportunities and will ensure the programme is reviewed annually.

Co-curricular life at Finborough isn’t a separate strand – it’s part of the whole character education. It complements academic learning, enriches personal development, and helps every pupil shape a future that’s full of possibility.

Clubs run during lunchtime and after school, with the after-school sessions taking place from 4.30 – 5.30pm. The programme offers a diverse range of activities designed to suit a wide variety of interests, and forms part of Finborough’s broader wraparound care provision – supporting families with flexible, enriching options beyond the school day.

Most co-curricular opportunities are offered at no additional cost, though some specialised options, such as golf, may carry a fee depending on the requirements. The programme is delivered by Finborough’s talented staff body and overseen by Mr Ian Ireland, Director of Co-curricular, ensuring consistency and quality across all activities. In addition, the school has established pathway partnerships with Stowmarket Golf Club.

Senior School Study

Senior School pupils who elect to stay at school after lesson 6.  Between 4:30 – 5:30pm pupils can participate in one of the range of activities that are on offer. Alternatively they can elect to use this hour for independent study, to complete their prep. This will be supervised in our Hub and ICT areas to enable access to all the resources pupils may need. To support best focus and learning discipline, work is completed in silence with our Year 10 and 11’s able to listen to appropriate ‘earphone’ music as long as it does not cause them or others any distraction. Dinner is available at 5:30pm and all pupils are welcome to eat before the conclusion of their school day.
